Pioneer Days, Mountain View!!!
Well folks Pioneer Days is
almost here. It is coming the evening of September 24th, evening of
September 25th & all day Saturday September 26th. If you asked us if
it is ready, I can safely say yes. We still have two weeks and two
more planning meetings to go yet but pretty much all done.
Pioneer Days 2009 is a lot
like it has been in the past several years however we try to change it
a little each year or add new events. On the evening of September 24th
the Lil' Darlin & Lil Dumplin contest will take place inside the
community center starting at 6:30 pm. Dress those kids in ole fashion
pioneer clothing and bring them on down to the darlin & dumplin
contest. No entry fee and everyone will be a winner.
On Friday night September
25th the Mtn View Community Betterment will host the annual ham n'
Bean supper. It starts at 4:00 pm at the community center and that is
the night of the hometown football game. So come by the center eat
your meal and then go support the Liberty Eagles. Following the
supper there also will be square dancing and music going on in the
center.
Saturday morning kicks off
the main day with the flapjack breakfast starting at 6:30 am inside
the community center. This is sponsored by the Mountain View Chamber
and other chamber members.
Ok we are on Saturday now
the BIG day. There will be crafters and information booths lining the
first street, the food plaza will be in the same location next to the
college, we have lots of good crafts & food booths so come on down eat
with us and purchase something maybe a christmas gift. Starting at
10:00 am the wood competition will start out between the library &
college. Tammy & James Blunk will be heading this event up for us, so
get out those saws and be here a little before 10:00 to sign up out by
the jam up creek.
Mountain View Youth Center
will be sponsoring the Kiddie Land down next to the laundry mat. They
will have tons & tons of things to do for the kids. Also the rock
climbing wall will be here to challenge you.
On Oak Street you will
find the Antique Car, Truck & Tractor show sponsored by Landmark
Bank. Also you will find the Outhouse Display of local businesses. We
encourage everyone to bring down a decorated outhouse you could win
money as well as advertisement from K95 radio station. To the
businesses that do put one in, it cannot be larger than a 4' X 4'
space. It must be decorated. You can plan to bring it down on Friday
between the hours of 5:30 am & 8:30 am on Oak Street. The street will
be blocked off at 5:30 for convenience. Should you have questions call
417-934-0494.
We have a very large stage
this year sponsored by Landmark Bank and owned by Dale & Denise Henry
of Ozark Mountain Leasing. They have purchased a stage to rent for
various events, so remember to call Dale or Denise at 934-2805 to rent
your stage for your next event. We thank Landmark Bank for the
tremendous support they give us.
The Mountain Men Long
Rifle TeePee village will be on the East side of the community center.
They will be set up on Friday evening and demonstating their wares all
day on Saturday. Drop by and visit with the families and maybe
purchase an something homemade.
Next to them will be the
Ozark Fiber Artist Guild, these ladies will be weaving, spinning, rug
twining, knitting and other fiber arts. You can see these items and
purchase products weekly at The Wool Market located at 505 N Marr St
next to the Farmers Market.
Next to the Fiber Guild
will be West Plains Bank & Trust they will have the old fashion
picutre taking booth raising money to fight autism.
KUKU will be sponsoring
the bow shoot again this year, contact Gary Lee Taylor at 934-1000 for
more information.
Next to the gazebo will be
the Mo Conservation teaching children or anyone how to fish. Just come
on down you do not have to bring anything they furnish everything.
Early in the morning there
will be a Senior Lady Husband Calling contest. Come on ladies, you
could win $100.00. It will be held at 8:30 am so you should have
those vocal chords ready...
During the day on the
stage there will be tons of things going on. There is a Hillbilly
Idol Contest, Pie Eating Contest, Hillbilly Macho man hot dog eating
contest & costume contest as well as the music, dancing and
announcement of winners throughout the day. There is something for
everyone to enjoy.
Music this year will be
all local people. We are very proud of our citizens of this community
and surrounding communities and hope all will enjoy this also.
The parade will be at 3:00
with lineup starting at 2:00 at Wayside Park next to the swimming
pool.
Please call me at home @
417-934-0494 or cell 417-247-1278 with any information or questions.
I
know this is lengthy, just getting the information out to everyone
so maybe when people have questions you will already know the answer.
To Channel 2, newspapers and radio we hope you can take this and maybe
help us promote this festival through your business.
Thanks, Linda Lewis
